SYNOPSIS
When Johannes Brahms is born in Hamburg on May 7, 1833, nobody has any idea how much the child prodigy will shape the history of music. For international music critics, the grandiose symphonic power, the richness of the thematic work, and the concentration of form in his symphonies stand on a par with Beethoven’s greatest works. Yet Brahms suffers from melancholy throughout his life and is viewed by many as a lonely and tragic genius. And yet, one can feel the passion in his music. What influenced and inspired Brahms? Who triggered all these feelings inside him, which he then transformed into musical masterpieces? Often it is the women in his life who inspire him. Above all, the friendship – or more accurately, the deep but unfulfilled love – between him and the famous pianist Clara Schumann accompanies Johannes Brahms throughout his entire life.
Although Brahms places art above love, it is this painful devotion that can be felt in his music, which continues to inspire writers, filmmakers, and musicians all over the world to this day.
